The EDI system replaces the conventional mixed-bed ion-exchanger resins for the production of deionised water. In contrast to mixed-bed ion-exchanger systems, in which the resins have to be replaced or regenerated, no interruption of production is necessary. For this reason, EDI reduces variations in the water quality, operating and capital costs to a minimum.
EDI removes ions from the water, usually in combination with a reverse osmosis system and other pure water systems. The quality modules produce consistently ultra-pure water with a residual conductivity down to 0.055 µS/cm or 18.2 MW. EDI can be used both as part of a continual or intermittent process.
