Heating system damage is not only a danger for boiler systems of groups A to C (nominal output from 100 kW), which according to VDI 2035 require special protection measures. For smaller warm water heating systems of Group 0 too, preventive measures can avoid corrosion damage. For this application, we recommend the JUDO Thermodos system.
The cause of heating system damage Carbonate hardness constituents dissolved in heating system filling water break down on heating to form insoluble limescale and carbonic acid. This limescale is usually deposited on the heating surfaces of the boiler, and in the narrow channels of regulating valves. This seriously impairs the heat transmission. This causes increased energy consumption (2 mm of limescale = approx. 20 %). Local over-heating can cause expensive boiler damage. Carbonic acid and oxygen lead to surface and localised corrosion. Radiators and uptake pipes (manifolds) are particularly at risk. Rust sludge interferes with water circulation.
