Pool materials Rough ceramic tiles are the most common tried-and-tested surface covering for reinforced concrete pools. Suitable
materials must also be used for the components of pool systems: these
include red cast iron, stainless steel or specially treated plastics.
JUDO supplies a complete range of these products that meet all
integrity and corrosion resistance requirements. Carbonate-free,
standardised materials must be used for mortars and grouting compounds
on rough ceramic tile pool linings. The relevant specialist suppliers
offer tried-and-tested, suitable paints if the pool walls are only to
be painted, but don’t forget: paint coatings must be renewed at regular
intervals, while ceramic linings should normally last a lifetime. Lining
with PVC film is a technique usually used when renovating old and
leaking pools. These require specially designed equipment components
(wall penetrations with attachment flanges so that the film has the
correct level of tension).
Pool size The
ideal size for a private single-family swimming pool is a length of 8 m
and a width of 4 m. The JUDO counterflow system (swimming on the spot
without having to turn) is a very worthwhile investment, particularly
in smaller pools. Child safety issues need to be taken into account
when deciding on the pool depth. However, children do grow up and learn
to swim. The optimum water depth for swimmers is between 1.35 – 1.50 m.
Pool shape A
rectangular pool with perpendicular walls is the most economical
solution, and the easiest shape when it comes to building and lining
the pool. Appropriate planning is necessary for other shapes to ensure
that all parts of the pool are included in the overall water flow.
